These have become our go to during winter break or just anytime we have free time!
Why we love them now vs other times of year:
It requires a little bit of driving. Great to do in the winter because you’re not missing out on great weather.
Simple walks or hikes around. They’re easy to find, and easy to get back in the car if it’s a bit cold.
All of these require off-road driving. We have been able to reach them all in a minivan, but use caution and your best judgement when driving to them!
Children’s Forest at the Kiln:
Creek Kiln Trail #31035, Leeds
https://maps.app.goo.gl/VERmZN2eSuqMr8857?g_st=ipc
.6 mile walk located in Leeds. It’s a short walk to a Kiln built in the 1800’s that was used to separate charcoal for the silver reef mine. It’s a fun forest walk with signage for all the different plants and shrubs around. This does require some off road driving on a dirt – but we have done this with our minivan easily. Use caution when getting there!

Old Gypsum Mine just across the Arizona border, 25 minutes away from St. George. You can mine the gypsum, just make sure you pay for them before you leave!
We love this website that has great directions on how to get there: https://hikestgeorge.com/glitter-mountain/

Warner Valley Dinosaur Tracks:

Located out in the Warner valley desert, follow the dirt road about 9 miles out from the Warner valley exit to the track site. It’s a .6 mile hike to the dinosaur tracks that are very well marked and fun to see.
